What is Preview test

Preview test lets you switch between groups while browsing through your website, to check exactly how your A/B test will look and behave on your store before any real visitors are involved.

When you create a Preview test, ABConvert writes the test configuration to your live theme. But the test is only visible when you visit your store using a special preview URL that contains your shop's unique preview key. Any visitor who doesn't have that URL sees your store exactly as normal. Nothing changes for them.

This lets you check your test variations in a real environment — with your actual theme, your real product prices, and your third-party apps — before going live.

Which test types support Preview

  • Price test (Shopify function)

  • URL redirect test

  • Shipping test

  • Template test

  • Theme test

  • Visual editor test

How to create a Preview test

  1. Create a new test and fill in your test settings as normal

  2. In final review step, instead of directly clicking "Launch", click "Preview"

  3. Wait for the preview test created, click "Copy" to copy the preview link URL, or "Open" to open it directly in a new tab

  4. In your preview, you’ll also see an ABConvert Preview Widget on the page. You can drag it around and:

    • If you have more than 1 preview test running, you can select the test you want to test with the dropdown

    • For each test, switch between test groups in the Test Group section while you browse through your website

  5. To edit test setting during preview, simply go back to previous steps and edit. Then go back to review step and click "Update preview" button to refresh your preview and keep testing,

  6. To launch test after preview, click "Launch test" button to launch your test live and open for customers.
