How Many Checkout Tests Can I Run?

ABConvert currently supports three types of checkout tests:

  • Payment Customization Test

  • Delivery Customization Test

  • Checkout UI Test (only available for Shopify Plus stores)

How many tests can run at once?

You can run only one test per type at a time.

  • ✅ Allowed: 1 active Payment Customization Test + 1 active Delivery Customization Test

  • ❌ Not allowed: 2 active Delivery Customization Tests at the same time

This ensures accurate results and prevents conflicts between variants.

Examples of allowed combinations

Here’s how you can combine checkout tests:

  • Scenario 1: Run a Payment Customization Test and a Delivery Customization Test.

  • Scenario 2: Run a Checkout UI Test alongside a Payment Customization Test.

  • Scenario 3: Run all three types together — one of each.

Why can't I test express checkout methods?

When running checkout tests, it’s crucial to ensure accurate data collection. One key limitation is that express checkout methods—such as Shop Pay, PayPal, and Google Pay—do not go through the standard checkout process. As a result, they are excluded from checkout tests due to following reasons.

Bypass Standard Checkout Pages

Express checkout methods allow users to skip standard checkout steps, meaning any changes made in the test (e.g., layout, delivery options, shipping options) may not be applied to these transactions.

Missing Key Tracking Events

Some express checkout options appear within the standard checkout page but still follow their own separate checkout process. As a result, they do not trigger key events like Payment Info Submitted and Contact Info Submitted, which are crucial for tracking user behavior and conversion rates.

Can I test one-page vs. three-page checkout with ABConvert?

Some users may wonder if it's possible to use ABConvert to test which layout performs better for their store.

Unfortunately, the answer is NO. Currently, we do not offer the feature to test between these two checkout options directly within ABConvert.
