This guide shows you how to limit a template A/B test in ABConvert to specific pages. This helps you test layout changes, product page templates, and design variations without affecting your entire storefront.
When to use this
Use this guide when you want to:
Test a new product page template on only a few products
Compare two layouts for a specific product group (for example lamps or accessories)
Avoid affecting unrelated products while you experiment
Method 1: Use advanced conditions
This method is ideal if you’re testing only a few products.
Create a new template test
Go to Advanced settings
Select the second radio button: Yes, only include the conditions below
Add a condition:
Choose Page URL
Choose matches exactly
Enter the product page relative path, for example
/products/my-cool-product
Repeat this step for each page you want to include
Method 2: Duplicate the original template
If you want to run the test on a large group of products, adding conditions one by one is time-consuming. Instead, use Shopify’s template assignment to target entire product groups.
In your Shopify theme editor, duplicate your current product template
Name it something like product-template-a
Assign this duplicated template to all the products you want included in the test (for example all lamp products)
In ABConvert, open your test setup and select:
Original template: the duplicated template a you just assigned
Variant template: the new template you want to test
In this setup, only products using product-template-a will be included in the test.
