How to manage my tests

Test status and actions introduction

Core Statuses

These are the core statuses that can appear across different ABConvert test types.

  • Draft

    The test is saved but not launched

  • Preview

    Temporary preview mode and it's only available for Cart Transform price tests

  • Active

    The test is running and collecting conversion data

  • Paused

    The test has been temporarily stopped and can be resumed

  • Closed

    The test has been permanently ended

  • Deleted

    The test has been removed from your workspace permanently

Transitional statuses

These statuses appear briefly while ABConvert processes changes:

  • Creating

    The system is setting up your test and will move it to Active when ready

  • Pausing

    The system is disabling test configurations and will switch to Paused

  • Resuming

    The system is re-enabling the test and will switch to Active

Actions you can do to manage your tests

Pause / Resume / End / Delete tests

You can manage test status with pause, resume, end, and delete actions.

Edit tests

You can edit your A/B test anytime to adjust specific settings including traffic split percentage, pricing, or shipping rates. This helps you fine-tune your experiment without starting over.

Duplicate tests

Some test types support duplication of closed tests. This helps you to quickly reuse past experiments without rebuilding tests from scratch.

Pause / Resume

  • Can be resumed (become active) to continue collecting new data.

  • Analytics data can be viewed

  • Customers will see your original storefront.

  • URL redirect test

  • Template test

  • Theme test

  • Price test V0 and V2

  • Checkout UI test

  • Payment Customization test

  • Delivery Customization test

  • You are updating your storefront but don’t want to restart a test.

  • You are holding events like seasonal promotions, changes in traffic sources, or external campaigns and want to avoid data contamination.

Delete

  • The deleted experiments will be removed from the list of Your Tests.

  • Analytics data will be deleted.

  • Customers will see your original storefront.

All test types (test status in Closed or Draft)

  • You made incorrect settings and want to remove the wrong tests.

  • You have redundant or out-of-date tests and want to reduce clutter.

End an experiment

Ended tests will remain on the list of Your Tests. You can still view the analytics of stopped tests and duplicate these test for future use.

  1. You can use ... or the multi-select tool to End one or more active experiments.

  2. Select End on the action bar below and confirm details in the pop-up.

Delete an experiment

You can only delete a Closed or Draft test. Deleted tests will be removed from Your Tests and you cannot view the analytics of these tests after it is deleted.

  1. You can use ... or the multi-select tool to Delete one or more closed experiments

  2. Select Delete on the action bar below and confirm details in the pop-up.

Pause an experiment

When the experiment is paused, no new customer data will enter the analytics.

  1. To pause an active test: Click on the ... , and select Pause.

  2. To resume a paused test: Click on the ... , and select Resume.

How to edit your tests

  1. Open your ABConvert dashboard.

  2. Find the test you want to edit.

  3. Click the three dots ⋮ under the Actions column.

  4. Select Edit in the dropdown menu.

Editing Availability by Test Status

  • Active Tests ✅ Can be edited Tests that are currently running can be fully edited.

  • Paused Tests ❌ Cannot be edited Tests that are paused cannot be edited. You'll need to resume the test first to edit it.
    Only cart transform method price tests allow editing while paused.

  • Ended Tests ❌ Cannot be edited Once a test has ended, the test are locked and cannot be modified.

Requirements for duplication

To duplicate a test, it must be in Closed status, If your test is not closed, please end the test first.

Steps to duplicate test

  1. Open a closed test

  2. Click the action menu

  3. Click "Duplicate" for all tests supporting it or "Create Draft" for shipping tests

Tests that duplicate to draft

Best for

  • Reviewing all settings before making the test live

  • Making updates to the duplicated version

  • Controlling exactly when the test starts

Tests that duplicate to active

Best for

  • Rerunning a proven variant test

  • Restarting the same experiment quickly

  • Tests where you do not need to edit configuration first

Not recommended when

  • You need time to review settings

  • You want to adjust test groups or targeting

  • You are unsure about the setup

FAQ

How long should I run the test before closing?

It varies based on your website traffic and your conversion rate, you can calculate the data point you need for a test with assistance of AI.

Our general suggestion is to at least have 5000 visitors and 100 orders in total.

Why is my test stuck on Creating?

The system may still be syncing with Shopify. If it stays in this state for more than 10 minutes, reach out to support.

Does duplication affect the original test?

No. The original remains unchanged.

Can I duplicate a duplicated test?

Yes. End it first, then duplicate again.

Why my duplicating test is stuck in Creating?

This is normal for a few minutes. If it lasts more than 15 minutes, contact support.
